Agricultural Technician Apprentices 2022

We are excited to announce AFGRI’s further expansion in WA continued with the acquisition of 6 additional locations through the WA Wheatbelt. Our drive to maintain and improve service delivery through our branch network necessitates the growth of our staff compliment in all areas of our business. 

We are offering candidates the opportunity to work towards a Certificate Ill in Ag Mechanical Technology, whilst being employed by an industry-leading company. AFGRI is in the privileged position of working closely with Central Regional TAFE to have a college devoted to training our next generation of technicians. We also have the capacity to deliver a high quality of in-house industry relevant training. We are seeking to recruit 35 Agricultural Apprentices with the aim of ensuring they become qualified Service Technicians working at one of our AFGRI Branches located in the following rural towns across WA - Albany, Boyup Brook, Busselton, Carnamah, Cunderdin, Dalwallinu, Esperance, Geraldton, Gnowangerup, Lake Grace, Moora, Merredin, Narrogin, Narembeen, Northam, Mukinbudin, Quairading and Wongan Hills.  

Role and Responsibilities

  • To assist in the reassembly of machines and equipment following repair; test operation; and to make adjustments as necessary.
  • To assist in the repair or replacement of defective parts, using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders.
  • To assist in testing operations and in replacement of electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools.
  • Record details of repairs made and parts used.
  • To assist in servicing or overhauling of engines.
  • To assist in dismantling defective machines for repair.
  • To assist in examining equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions.
  • To assist in maintenance, repair, and overhauling of farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors and harvesters using hydraulics hoists or jacks.
  • Responsible for completing timecards, service reports and other documents as required
  • Ensure that you always adhere to safety standards.
  • Protect your own health and safety and the health and safety of other people who may be affected by one's conduct in the workplace.
  • Ensure that any hazardous conditions, near misses and injuries are reported immediately to the Manager.
  • Undertake relevant training and development activities.

Required Skills

  • Completed Year 12, preferably at an agricultural college
  • Work experience on large machinery or in the Ag Industry
