AFGRI Equipment Apprentice and Trainee Academy

At AFGRI Equipment, we understand that training the next generation of technicians and parts interpreters allows us to continue to meet the needs of our customers and develop employees for the future.

In 2019, AFGRI Equipment collaborated with Central Regional TAFE as part of out training strategy to enhance our training program and learning capabilities of our apprentice and trainees. The program has grown significantly to ensure that we can provide a premium service and high level of quality to our customers.

2025 Intake

For our 2025 intake, we will be recruiting 45 apprentices and 10 parts trainees across our 19 branches in our West Australian dealer network. Applications are open NOW, with commencement to start end of 2024 to early 2025, with induction and sign up held in late January 2025.

Apprentice Roles & Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

  • To assist in the reassembly of machines and equipment following repair; test operation; and to make adjustments as necessary.
  • To assist in the repair or replacement of defective parts, using hand tools,welding equipment and/or grinders.
  • To assist in testing operations and in replacement of electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment and hand tools.
  • Record details of repairs made, and parts used.
  • To assist in servicing or overhauling of engines.
  • To assist in dismantling defective machines for repair.
  • To assist in examining equipment, read inspection reports and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions.
  • To assist in maintenance, repair and overhauling of farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors and harvesters using hydraulic hoists or jacks.
  • Responsible for completing timecards, service reports and other documents as required.
  • Ensure to always adhere to safety standards.
  • Protect own health and safety and the health and safety of other people who may be affected by one's conduct in the workplace.
  • Ensure any hazardous conditions, near misses and injuries are reported immediately to the manager.
  • Undertake relevant training and development activities.

Requirements

  • Completed Yr12, at an Ag Collage preferable.
  • Experience in the Ag industry is desired.
  • Passion for the Agriculture industry.

Parts Trainee Roles & Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer needs and enquiries in the workplace.
  • Sell automotive products and services.
  • Promote our products and services to customers.
  • Conduct online transactions.
  • Learn to find available stock on the system, order stock and complete sales.
  • Learn to stock take and re-order stock on our system.
  • Learn to read parts diagrams and interpret required parts for customers.
  • Develop skills to display showroom goods/equipment for sale.
  • Perform office-related work as required.
  • Undertake all relevant training and development activities.

Requirements

  • Completed Yr12, at an Ag Collage preferable.
  • Have an interest in Ag Machinery and the industry.
  • Passion for the Agriculture industry.

What are the benefits of learning at the academy?

Being a part of the AFGRI Apprentice & Trainee academy, students work towards receiving a nationally recognised qualification whilst being employed by an industry - leading company. AFGRI Equipment works closely with Central Regional TAFE and are devoted to the training of the next generation of Technicians & Parts Interpreters. Students will also receive high quality in-house industry relevant training from our technical advisors, on–the–job training at the branches they are based at and additional product-specific training via John Deere University.

What qualifications will I receive once I complete my course?

Service Technician Apprenticeships
This is a 48-month course and on successful completion students will receive a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate III in Agriculture Mechanical Technology.

Part Traineeships
Is a 24-month course and on successful completion will receive a nationally recognised qualification in Certificate III
in Automotive Sales.

How many applicants will be accepted into the academy?

AFGRI Equipment will recruit up to 45 apprentices and 10 parts trainees into the program each year to work across our 19 branches across Western Australia.

What types of equipment will I be working on?

At AFGRI Equipment, students will become specialised in working on a wide range of John Deere Equipment, we also supply machinery from other premium suppliers as well as service a wide range of agricultural, industrial and commercial equipment.

What requirements are needed to join the apprentice and trainee academy?

Applicants that hold year 12 at an Ag college or work experience in large machinery or in agriculture are desirable.

Do I get to choose which branch I would like to train and work at?

Applicants are required to list two branch preferences. If successful, our recruitment team then works to ensure that desired placement, dependent on availability.
