CommandDrive rolled out across MY21 sprayer range

Deere’s popular CommandDrive system is one of the key updates to their model 2021 range of 4-Series self-propelled sprayers, with the all-wheel drive feature being rolled out across the lineup. Already available on the John Deere R4045 and R4060 models, the system has now been added to R4030 and R4038 machines offering greater efficiency, better traction as well as a quieter ride.

CommandDrive helps cover ground more easily because it allows operators to travel over hills, wet patches and soft ground. It is an intelligent PowertrainTM that uses a single hydrostatic pump to power all four variable displacement wheel motors.

If one or more wheels lose traction, the system adjusts to slow the slipping wheel and direct more flow to the other wheels, which provides the traction needed to power the sprayer over the terrain. CommandDrive works in tandem with the engine and the entire sprayer system to automatically increase rpm when more power is required. This then aids in maintaining spraying consistency.

CommandDrive also has an Auto Mode setting which allows the operators to maintain selected ground speed and application rates at lower engine rpm. It also automatically reduces the engine’s rpm to 900 when the machine is stopped, which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20 percent.

John Deere precision agriculture tactical segment manager Marko Koelln said the system, in addition to other updates, will further boost farmers’ and contractors’ ability to apply the right product at the right rate and at the right time. “Reducing input costs and maximising productivity are critical to efficiency and profitability,” Koelln said. “It gives producers great control over the way to run their businesses.

“With these changes, John Deere is providing optimised operator comfort and safety, and also helping to ensure we are working with our customers to integrate features that have a direct impact on their bottom line.” Another standout feature to the MY21 offerings is improvements to the already high-performing carbon fibre boom, an option now available on models across the range.

Upgrades include a new T6 and T7 rope design, an additional breakaway bumper for more stability, new breakaway strap wear plates and new breakaway solenoid design to improve fold functionality. To find out more, contact your local AFGRI today.
