Sprayer advancements helping WA farmers spray smarter, not harder

Western Australian growers can now take their spray application to the next level, with major updates to John Deere’s See & Spray™ Select technology delivering increased accuracy, efficiency and input savings across the season.

The in-season variable rate capabilities have been rigorously tested in Australian conditions, with trials across WA, NSW and Victoria helping to tailor the technology to our farming systems.

AFGRI Equipment is proud to bring these updates to local farmers, including enhanced compatibility with AutoTrac™ Turn Automation and ExactApply™. Together, these features offer smarter, more efficient spraying through every pass.

AFGRI Equipment Production Ag Manager, James Chellew, said the updates are designed to help farmers make every pass count—especially when operating in tight spray windows.

Spraying isn’t just about covering ground anymore—it’s about targeting exactly where the product is needed, at the right rate, with minimal waste,” James said. “These new See & Spray™ Select upgrades allow for greater precision across the crop cycle and help farmers manage input costs more effectively.”

Smarter spraying across every season

Previously used to control weeds in fallow paddocks, See & Spray™ Select can now be used for in-season fungicide, desiccant and pre-harvest spraying, thanks to new variable rate functionality.

Operators can now view the percentage of green biomass detected across the boom and vary the volume applied from each nozzle based on crop density. This makes it possible to better align with label rates and reduce overall product use—or maintain the same rates with higher application quality.

Growers will need a G5 or G5Plus CommandCenter™ display to enable this new feature.

We know every paddock has variability, whether it's in soil type, crop growth or biomass,” James said. “Being able to adjust rates on the go means you're not over-applying or under-performing—you’re getting it just right.”

Upgrades available for new and existing sprayers

See & Spray™ Select with variable rate will come factory-installed on Model Year 2026 John Deere 400 and 600 Series Sprayers with 27.4 m, 30.5 m, or 36.6 m steel booms. For older models, AFGRI Equipment offers upgrade kits to bring current fleets up to speed with both See & Spray™ and ExactApply™ features.

The new ExactApply™ updates also include AutoSelect Pulsing, enabling rate variation across up to 11 boom sections. This feature improves placement precision and compensates for terrain and curve changes—ideal for WA’s broadacre conditions.

Advanced automation reduces crop damage

John Deere sprayers equipped with AutoTrac™ Turn Automation and AutoTrac™ Vision 2.0 can now steer more accurately, reduce operator stress and avoid costly crop damage. Vision 2.0 uses roof and front-mounted cameras to steer down crop rows, ideal for contractors or growers working in complex fields.

Technology like AutoTrac™ Turn Automation really helps take pressure off the operator,” James said. “It means better coverage, less fatigue and a lower chance of damaging the crop—especially during longer spraying days.
